The Beach Club renovation at Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club has two finish dates. The club's September 9, 2026 update says work began in May 2026. The expanded Seaside Lounge is scheduled for December 2026, and the new spa and two oceanfront beach suites are targeted for May 2027. Because of that split, the lounge is part of this season's story and the spa is part of next year's. Between now and December, the club's social calendar runs from its other buildings, and the north island's public calendar runs out of Wabasso.
Two Dates, Two Different Seasons
The project is older than the hard hats. The Town of Orchid approved the site plan for the Beach Club renovation and spa expansion at 1 Beachside Drive in Resolution No. 2025-04, adopted April 2, 2025. Construction started thirteen months after that approval. Here is the sequence as the club and the town have published it.
| Milestone | Date | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Town of Orchid site plan approval | April 2, 2025 | Resolution No. 2025-04 |
| Beach Club construction begins | May 2026 | Club update, Sept. 9, 2026 |
| Expanded Seaside Lounge completion | December 2026 | Club update, Sept. 9, 2026 |
| New spa and two oceanfront beach suites | May 2027 | Club update, Sept. 9, 2026 |
The public record says nothing about how the Beach Club runs day to day while the work goes on. The club's update covers scope and target dates only. Town Council minutes posted for 2026 don't cover construction operations either. For interim dining hours or which beachfront areas are open in a given week, the club office is the only reliable answer.
What the Lounge Is Being Rebuilt Around
The club's own description of the Seaside Lounge reads more like a careful update than a reinvention. The reimagined room is meant to give members more space while keeping the intimate character the lounge has long had. The plan adds wider ocean views, design changes and better acoustics. Member feedback shaped the room's layout and sound treatment, and it led the club to keep familiar furnishings.
That detail matters for anyone counting the weeks until December. The goal is a room members will still recognize, with a better view and a quieter conversation level.
The spa, arriving in May, is the bigger addition. Plans call for treatment rooms, steam and sauna facilities, a relaxation room and traditional spa services. The club ties it to the wellness program already running: personal training, group fitness, Pilates, yoga, spinning and on-site physical therapy. Until the spa opens, those classes and the fitness center make up the club's wellness offering.
Where the Club's Afternoons Run Until Then
With the Beach Club partly offline, the fall weight shifts to two places the club itself names as gathering spots.
The first is the Golf Club. A recent expansion there added an outdoor bar, open-air dining and a fire pit. General Manager Rob Tench describes the addition as especially popular with members. That $5 million clubhouse refresh was unveiled in March 2025. It also brought a 2,200-square-foot sports bar and an expanded pro shop, so this is the first full season it carries the social calendar while the oceanfront is under construction.
The course has also just hosted a professional field. In September, Orchid Island and Quail Valley co-hosted the 47th Annual South Florida PGA Section Professional Championship, played September 15 to 17. Tyler Collet of John's Island Club won, and the top 14 finishers qualified for the 2027 PGA Professional Championship, according to the club's announcement. Members coming back this month are teeing off on greens that hosted the section's top club professionals three weeks ago.
The second is the Racquet and Sports Complex. It has eight Har-Tru tennis courts plus pickleball, croquet and bocce. The Pelican Pavilion sits at the center, and Tench describes it as a social gathering place before and after play, good for a cocktail or a light bite. Executive Chef Chris Sozio's program covers all of the club's dining settings and includes health-conscious choices and accommodations for special diets.
The Lagoon Side Got Its Own Upgrade This Summer
While the oceanfront was being rebuilt, the Town of Orchid worked on the water on the other side. On July 8, 2026, crews installed 9,600 seagrass plants around the community kayak launch, with monitoring planned after 30 days, according to the town's release.
So the kayak launch has had about three months of new seagrass growth by the time most of the season's paddling begins. It is one of the few community amenities that is fully open this fall and has had recent work.
On the ocean side, Indian River County added a live camera at Wabasso Beach Park. It streams real-time surf video along with weather, tide charts and surf reports. It's handy for checking beach conditions a few minutes north before heading out.
Wabasso's Calendar Between Now and the Lounge
The busiest public calendar near Orchid this fall belongs to the Environmental Learning Center in Wabasso. Its October and November listings, bird walks and holiday event pages cover the whole stretch until the Seaside Lounge returns, and a little beyond.
- October 16 and 26, 5:15 p.m.: Sunset Kayak Tour, then a Full Moon/Sunset Kayak Tour
- October 17, 9:30 a.m.: Guided Nature Walk at Sebastian Inlet State Park
- October 31, 8 a.m.: Family Fishing Day
- November 6 and 7, 5 p.m.: Outdoor Movie Nights showing Finding Nemo, then Moana
- November 8, 8 a.m.: EcoAction Beach Cleanup
- November 12, December 17, January 14 and January 28: Bird Walks, meeting at 8:15 a.m. for an 8:30 departure, $15 per person
- December 11 and 12, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.: WinterGreen Night Lights, open to the public, with a members-only ELC preview on Thursday, December 10
- January 23, 2027: Lagoonapalooza Nature and Music Festival
The timing lines up neatly. WinterGreen Night Lights lands in the same month the Seaside Lounge is due. The ELC describes illuminated nature trails, guided canoe tours through glowing mangroves and holiday cookie decorating on the Indian River Lagoon after dark. If the lounge finishes on schedule, a December evening on the island could take in both the lagoon lights and the new ocean-view room.
Several ELC event pages carry older publishing dates in their page code even though they show 2026 and 2027 dates. Confirming each event directly before going is the safe approach.
Getting North on A1A This Fall
The October 17 walk at Sebastian Inlet comes with a road change. Starting at about 7 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, weather permitting, both directions of A1A, also called Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway, shift onto temporary pavement for the Sebastian Inlet Bridge replacement. The shift starts about 1,400 feet south of the Sebastian Inlet State Park entrance in Indian River County and lasts through late 2028, according to a Town of Melbourne Beach update posted October 6. The update describes phased lane shifts, not a full bridge closure.
Parking is the other change. Since July, parts of the park's North and South parking lots have been partially closed around the clock for bridge construction, and that closure runs through spring 2032. Anyone driving up for the guided walk should expect fewer spaces than in past seasons.
Closer to home, Vero News reported in late August that an emergency sewer-main repair at the A1A and Wabasso Causeway intersection had only slightly affected turn lanes. A planned pedestrian-activated signal at A1A and Bahia Mar Road had not started as of that August 26 report. No later update has been published, so conditions at both spots may have changed.
When the Seaside Lounge reopens in December, the Beach Club will be partly back, and the spa and beach suites will still be on the May 2027 schedule.
